RPG for Life?

08/21/08 :: by pwang

While we’re on the topic of games, here’s an article that piqued my interest in the future of online gaming. I’ve never been a big fan of MMORPGs like World of Warcraft or Second Life, but if gaming could be made to actually benefit your real world self, besides powerful thumbs or trigger-happy clicking fingers, then maybe, just maybe, our lives will be that much more fun.

What is Fez

It’s a game. A really cool one:

I don’t know the specifics. Like what platform it’s on, or when it’s coming out, or who made it Kokoromi. The gaming industry’s been bland for a long time. I’m glad things like this and the wii can help more of us appreciate the visually different, rather than just things with high production value. Another current (anti)trend in games is low budget. During one session of a gaming class while in my major at UCLA DMA I sat in just to hear Jenova Chen from USC Interactive talk about his work, notably Flow.

With games getting smaller and easier to make for individual creators just as quickly as they are becoming more complex in the commercial industry, I wonder if someday we can all make our own ‘games’ and tailor them to our needs and dreams.

Kiss my brand.

How come some brands are more loveable than other brands? Perhaps because some brands facilitate an easy way to get all intimate, emotional, and passionate with them.

Take these two interactive, immersive, game experiences involving a very intimate act, kissing.

Here at the Happiness Factory, you get to control some ridiculously adorable puppy creatures on their adventure path, to ultimately win each level by kissing the gold at the end of the rainbow, in this case the bottle of coke. The whole experience is awesome, try it out here. Let me know if you can taste the coca-cola, k?

(Shift Control
won the Webby for this one.)

Mentos came up with a pretty clever fight game concept where you have to out kiss your component. I’d say there’s a place in everyone’s heart for a well played passionate kiss fight. You can try it out here.
