Flash becoming more SEO friendly

As announced today by TechCrunch, Flash files can now be partially indexed by the search engines. While this doesn’t mean that your all Flash site will rank the same as an all HTML equivalent, it is a huge step forward in reducing the most painful part of using Flash. Perhaps we’ll think twice now before simply denouncing Flash for our clients that also want top SEO rankings.

    And as they said, there is still some trouble about the related documents.

    Let’s say you have a flash animation using a XML to populate the text in there.
    Google will find the URL of you XML and index it, which is really fine. But the search will link to this xml, not the swf, or not the html page containing the swf.

    Thus I’m wondering where they will link: the HTML containing page, the swf itself (See http://www.google.com/search?q=colortest+is+simple See the 2nd link ). What’s happen if Google link to a swf which need to be included in an other in order to work? The result will be a realley decresed Ueser experience.

    Also, last I recall, Google was working on (or may have already) the ability for their search engine spiders to read JavaScript files which would obviously be a huge benefit for ‘fat’ Ajax applications. Anyone have a clue?
