Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail
I know this isn’t supposed to be a forum for political debate, but what with the upcoming primaries and presidential election, coupled with some heavy NPR listening, I just couldn’t resist any longer. The big buzz yesterday of course was Mitt Romney’s speech about being Mormon and how that might affect his service as Prez. The speech went as expected, Romney noting that his faith would not affect nor have anything to do with his role as President (a la JFK), that he shouldn’t have to answer these sorts of questions because they are irrelevant, but since you asked Jesus is the son of God, etc etc.
Which is all fine. However, I couldn’t help but feel that we should probably be prepared for the possibility that America may be subject to new, more strictly enforced moral standards come 2009. I’m not saying I don’t believe him or anything. No no. I’m saying that Republicans are like earthquakes: you don’t think they’re going to happen, and even if they do they probably won’t be that bad. But then every once in a while, a big one hits. Which is why they sell those handy flashlight-blanket-bandaid kits at Target.
But back to the point of this post… Funny enough, this morning I happened upon an online shopping site that could really come in handy for spring/summer 2009. Presenting the most (potentially) coveted beachwear for summer ‘09: The Culotte Swimsuit
You saw it here first!
(Maybe we should tell CAN.)
Good to see you getting all fired up Stina! I love getting pissed off about politics only to revel in my apathy!
Did you see the one about how our congress overwhelmingly passed the “SAFE Act”?? The new bill requires everyone (that includes you, Starbucks, etc) offering an open WiFi connection to the public to be on the lookout for “illegal images” and “obscene” cartoons and drawings which you must report.
Seriously, WTF?? Pretty soon we’ll be all turning our neighbors in for ’suspicious’ activity or any kind.
Oh, and did you see the one about how the White House illegally deleted over 10 million emails??
Good times. Good times.
Oh wait. How about the one about the Bush administration launching a new government agency that will rely heavily on private security contractors to conduct surveillance in the U.S.
