instead of going to google go to blackle
Blackle is essentially Google, but with a black background. Because the background is black, the monitor requires less power to display it. SERIOUSLY! I think if we all use this site instead of google, the company will save $600.
Um, mike, can i get a zune phone?
That’s hilarious. Heather, if you promise to sport it when you’re out, I will get you a zune phone TODAY.

July 18th, 2007 at 2:12 pmHere’s how you can save even more money-
switch all of the Windows computers to use a black desktop background and
right-click desktop background -> properties -> appearance -> set color scheme to High Contrast Black.
You’re welcome. Don’t forget the tip jar on your way out.

Mike, can i get an iphone?
July 18th, 2007 at 11:48 pmok, so here is more on blackle:
When your screen is white, be it an empty word page, or the
Google page, your computer consumes 74 watts, and when its black it
consumes only 59 watts. Mark Ontkush wrote an article about the energy
saving that would be achieved if Google had a black screen, taking in
account the huge number of page views, according to his calculations,
750 mega watts/hour per year would be saved.
In a response to this article Google created a black version of
July 27th, 2007 at 12:26 pmit’s search engine, called Blackle, with the exact same functions as the
white version, but with a lower energy consumption.

August 13th, 2007 at 2:44 pmRE: saving the company money by making sure every computer goes to sleep or turns off
… change your energy settings or install an energy-saving app so that it automatically sleeps when you’re not using it, and remember to turn it off at night.
* Cleaner air through zzz… Desktop computers can cause 1,500 lb of CO2 per year; enabling sleep mode can reduce energy consumption by up to 70%.
* Saving bucks. Save up to $75 per computer per year.
HEATHER’s NOTE: if we have 11 FD computers and 4 NESTING = $1125 savings a yr = WOW
